Melissa McKinney Obituary, Death- On September 15, 2023, Mrs. Melissa Parker McKinney, age 65, of Marion, passed away with her two children by her side.
She had been a mother of four. Melissa was born on August 1, 1958 in McDowell County to her parents, the late Alvin Parker and Mary Kent Parker. Melissa is a native of McDowell County. She worked as a phlebotomist at McDowell Hospital until the time of her retirement.
She was a member of Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church. Both the organ and the piano are instruments that Melissa learned to play on her own. She had a lot of talent and had played in the church choir for a long time.
Melissa was a joyful and free-spirited girl who had a deep affection for other people. Her children, and in particular her grandchildren, were some of the most important people in her life. Melissa was predeceased by her brothers Jerry, Terry, and Hal Silver, as well as her sister Loretta Hall. Her parents are the only members of her immediate family still living.
Her husband, Jimmy McKinney, as well as her two children, Terry Evans and wife Stephanie, and Tabitha Evans, all of Marion; her two stepsons, Joey McKinney and wife Jeannie, and Jimmy Dean McKinney and wife Lisa, all of Marion; her three grandchildren, Devin, Lauryn, and Sydney; and her four step-grandchildren, Cassie, Ethan, Casey, and Wayne, are among those who have carried on her legacy.
At the memorial ceremony that will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 at three o’clock in the afternoon to celebrate the life of Melissa, her son Terry Evans and Pastor JB Cope will officiate. The event will take place at the Westmoreland Funeral home in Marion.
In the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home, visitors will be welcomed one hour prior to the funeral ceremony, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., on the day of the service.
