He embraced various pursuits, including cross country running, swimming, debate, and music, playing the trumpet in the band.

One of the most pivotal moments in Keith’s life was his time at St. Olaf College, where he not only pursued his academic interests but also discovered the love of his life, Alison Sauey. It was during these years that he honed his skills and nurtured his passion for chemistry. Keith graduated in 1972, leaving St. Olaf as a proud Ole. His academic journey continued at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he furthered his education and pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a physician. In 1976, he earned his medical degree, setting the stage for a remarkable career in the field of medicine.

Completing his general surgery residency as Chief Resident at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, Keith was well-prepared to embark on his journey as a surgeon. He relocated to Eau Claire with his young family, a decision that would shape his life and legacy. In Eau Claire, he joined Midelfort Clinic and dedicated more than three decades to serving his patients with excellence and compassion. His commitment to his profession was unwavering, and he retired from the Mayo Clinic Health System in 2012.
