James Netherland Obituary, James Netherland Has Passed Away Peacefully

James Netherland Obituary, Death – We are deeply saddened by the news of Mr. James Netherland’s passing, a remarkable individual who played an instrumental role in the founding of the City of Pearl. Mr. Netherland’s vision and dedication to this community were truly exceptional.

In the early 1970s, Mr. Netherland took the lead in organizing a petition drive advocating for Pearl’s incorporation as an official city. His tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to this cause bore fruit when, in June 1973, the Mississippi Supreme Court granted Pearl’s incorporation.

This significant milestone marked the beginning of a new era for our community, thanks to Mr. Netherland’s visionary leadership. It was a great honor to have Mr. Netherland participate in this year’s Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, which coincided with the city’s 50th birthday.

His presence at the event was a testament to his enduring commitment to the place he helped create and shape. Our heartfelt prayers go out to his beloved wife of 65 years, Alice “Jean” Amason Netherland, and their entire family during this difficult time. Mr. Netherland’s legacy as one of the founding fathers of Pearl will forever be celebrated and remembered in the annals of our city’s history.

To pay our respects and bid farewell to this extraordinary individual, a visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Eastside Baptist Church in Pearl. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. on the same day at the church, with interment to follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
