Greta Griswold Obituary, Death – On September 8, 2023, Greta Gricol, 66, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at her home from pancreatic cancer. Delaware was always home for Greta. St. Helena’s Elementary, Padua Academy, and the University of Delaware were all stops on her educational journey. This woman was a regular at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. Greta married her true love, Jeffrey, in 1983. They marked 40 years of marriage in June of this year.
Greta’s first classroom was Holy Rosary Elementary School, where she taught third grade. She retired in 2019 after a long and dedicated career at PNC Bank in a number of roles. Through it all, her pride and delight was raising her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Gigi.” Greta never sat still for long. She was an avid runner, cyclist, and walker who frequently visited the YMCA. Greta, being Greta, found a great community in the Y’s exercise classes. The ease with which she made friends and acquaintances was one of her greatest strengths. She made some of her best friends during the many carefree summers she spent at Crestview Pool with her family.
Greta was the ideal hostess, and her warm personality, bright smile, and infectious laughter will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed by her husband Jeffrey, daughter Kelley and her husband Andrew, grandchildren Lia and James, sister Patty and her husband Danny, sister-in-law Mary Kate McKinley, and many friends and family members. Greta was predeceased by her daughter Julie, parents Robert and Grace, and brother Bobby. On Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., a visitation will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Wilmington, Delaware. A Mass of Christian Remembrance will be held at noon. The funeral and burial will be held in secrecy.
