Gary Brittain Obituary, Death Cause – We regret to inform you that former Nacogdoches Police Department Detective Gary Brittain passed away on the evening of August 30, 2023. We say goodbye to a real hero who spent an astonishing 47 years of his life serving the law with a sad heart. Nacogdoches will never forget Detective Brittain’s unrelenting dedication to serve his community. When Detective Brittain joined the NPD as a patrolman in September 1972, his career in law enforcement officially began. He accepted a number of positions with the department throughout the years,
including those of TSD Officer, Lake Officer, and Detective. In every role, his adaptability and commitment were evident, winning him the respect and affection of both his coworkers and the community. Detective Brittain changed jobs in March 2008 and joined the Nacogdoches County Attorney’s Office, where he worked with distinction until his well-earned retirement in 2019. Detective Brittain’s legacy was appropriately summed up by Assistant Chief Dan Taravella, who said, “Gary was always proud to serve the Nacogdoches community and did so in various positions. Law enforcement in Nacogdoches knew Gary well.
Funeral services are still to be held as we grieve the death of this outstanding officer. The Nacogdoches community will always respect and remember Detective Gary Brittain’s commitment and sacrifice.
