Alta Astor Obituary, Death- At the Imperial Nursing Home in Neptune on September 13, 2023, Alta S. Astor, formerly of Milltown, passed away.
Her birth name was Meseroll, and she was predeceased by her husband Meseroll. She lived to be 96. She received her diploma from New Brunswick High School in 1945 and was born on the Meseroll homestead in North Brunswick on April 22, 1927.
Her parents, Marguerite Clark Meseroll and John B. Meseroll, were her parents. In 1930, she made the move to Milltown, and she remained there for the majority of her life. She served as a bookkeeper for the Diamond Supply Company for thirty years and three generations throughout that time.
Company, which was based in New Brunswick and went out of business in 1989. Since 1935, she has been an active member of the United Methodist Church in Milltown as a parishioner. Alta led a very active lifestyle, devoting her time as a Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout den mother.
Co-chairing the Milltown 75th Anniversary Gala with her late husband Don, she did it together with him. In addition to that, she served as a committeewoman for the Democratic Party in Milltown, was a member of the Milltown Historical Society, and had previously served as president of the Milltown Senior Citizens.
Quilting was one of her passions, and she delighted in showing off her knitting and quilting skills to her extended family and close friends by making them lovely quilts and knitted items. She established the Tuesday Night Quilters in Milltown and was their first leader.
She was the organizer of the senior citizens’ organization that enjoyed knitting and crocheting hats and blankets to contribute to nursing homes and hospitals. She was a member of the Garden State Quilters in addition to the Brunswick Star Quilters.
Alta provided compassionate care for her aging mother, Marguerite, as well as for her numerous grandkids. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 42 years, Donald Gene Astor; her brothers John, Norman, and Alan Meseroll; and her sister Dorothy Meseroll.
She was the mother of Richard Astor and his wife Linda of Meadville, Pennsylvania, and the grandmother of Kyle Astor and his wife Kelly Astor, as well as Ryan Astor and his wife Shelley. She was also the mother of Juliet Astor and her husband Prosper Bellizia of Ocean Grove, New Jersey, and the grandmother of Lindsay Stanislau and her husband Bret, Jill Julian and her husband David, and Joseph Stanislau.
