Alan Collins Obituary, Death – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Alan Brent Collins, a cherished member of the Beaufort Academy Class of 1976. Alan, whose journey through life was filled with adventure and dedication, left this world on September 7th, 2023.
A man of many talents, Alan had a deep love for sports, particularly soccer and golf. He excelled on the soccer field, leaving an indelible mark on some remarkably talented teams. After a brief stint at Wofford College, Alan discovered his true passion in the boundless skies.
His passion for flying led him to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he graduated ahead of schedule. With a thirst for serving his country, Alan eagerly joined the United States Air Force, where he piloted KC-10 refueling planes and eventually rose to the prestigious role of commander. His dedication and service to his nation spanned seven years in the Air Force.
Following his military career, Alan embarked on a 20-year civilian journey as a pilot and Captain for American Airlines. Based in vibrant Miami, he piloted wide-body aircraft, including the renowned Boeing 777, on international routes that traversed South America and Europe.
Upon retiring, Alan returned to his beloved home in Beaufort, nestled along the picturesque Battery Creek. There, he could often be found boating or tending to his lush yard and captivating camellia gardens.
A private ceremony honoring Alan’s life will take place at the National Cemetery on September 22, 2023, at 11 a.m. Later, at 12 p.m., a celebratory service will be held at St. Helena’s Anglican Church, followed by a heartfelt reception in the Parish Hall.
Alan Brent Collins leaves behind a legacy of adventure, dedication, and unwavering love that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
